Hours of Work

-Seeking new RN Team Leaders for evening and night shift
-two 15-minute rest periods and unpaid lunch period per shift, and report time as needed. **differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts**

Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of your job position is to supervise the day to day nursing activities of the facility during your tour of duty. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Reporting Relationships
Responsible to: Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing
Employees Supervised: All same shift nursing employees.

Essential Functions of the Job

Supervisory Responsibilities

1. Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining nursing objectives and standards and departmental policies/procedures. (Examples: resident care plans, job descriptions, nursing procedures, etc.)

2. Make independent decisions regarding nursing care.

3. Evaluate emergencies and determine emergency measures to be used; implement measure and inform nursing administration.

4. Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing nursing care, and delegate appropriately to other responsible personnel.

5. Make timely rounds, inspecting the nursing service areas and practices, to assure compliance with current applicable policies and regulations.

6. Check resident's condition. If there are any abnormal conditions, contact the doctor for orders. Coordinate admissions to the hospital if necessary.

7. Interpret department policies/procedures to staff, residents, visitors, and family members as necessary and insure that facility policies are followed at all times.

8. Guide and direct the charge nurse in evaluating and assessing medical, social, psychological, spiritual, restorative, and rehabilitative care plans.

9. Assist and instruct the charge nurse and other nursing personnel in performing nursing procedures as necessary.

10. Reviews and analyzes shift quality assurance reports, accident/incident reports and medication error reports. Conducts thorough investigations and takes appropriate corrective action.

11. Create and maintain an atmosphere of personal interest and positive reinforcement, as well as a calm environment throughout the units.

12. Assure that nursing documentation is informative and descriptive of the nursing care provided and of the resident's response to care.

13. Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care and employee information to assure that resident and employee rights are protected.

14. Administer the Volunteer Feeding Program.

15. Evaluate residents to determine if they are eligible for Hospice care. Contact Hospice and make arrangements for residents that are eligible.

16. Prepare written assignments for employees with special needs.

17. Prepare counseling statements in conjunction with employee evaluations. Administer disciplinary measures as necessary.

Recordkeeping Responsibilities

1. Review complaints/grievances and make necessary oral and/or written reports to the appropriate nursing administration.

2. Assist in evaluating and implementing recommendations from the facility's committees and consultants.

3. Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submit to the appropriate nursing administration as required.

4. Develop and maintain nursing schedules as necessary. Schedule outside appointment coverage, and administer the transfer sheet.

5. Offer input on recruitment, selection, and training of competent department personnel and make recommendations to the Director of Nursing as appropriate.

6. Offer suggestions for programs designed for inservice education, on-the-job training, and orientation classes for newly assigned department personnel. Monitor inservice attendance and insure that staff are offered all necessary education in order to meet regulations and assure that the highest degree of quality resident care is afforded the residents.

7. Participate and assist in departmental studies and projects as assigned or that may become necessary.

8. Complete job performance evaluations of same shift nurses, and review job performance evaluations of other same shift nursing staff.

9. Prepare Resident Skin Assessment Report on a quarterly basis for Administrator and Department of Health.

Other Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel as well as other departments within the facility to assure that services and activities can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.

2. Meet with department personnel in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or improvement of services.

3. Meet with nursing administration, medical, and other related departments in planning and coordinating department services, programs, and activities.

4. Review, evaluate, and recommend equipment and supply needs, as well as work force status, on a timely basis to nursing administration.

5. Attend and participate in professional activities as well as continuing education, seminars, and programs, etc., to assure that awareness of current regulations and guidelines, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to nursing administration.

6. Be accessible to staff, residents, and families and in meeting their needs.

7. Contact residents' families to report incidents, changes in condition, hospitalization, or death. Meet with residents' families at other times as necessary.

8. Be cognizant of budgetary parameters and show efforts to operate on shift within those parameters.

9. Attend charge nurse and supervisory meetings. Attend committee meetings as requested or required, as necessary.

10. Exercise principles of infection control in all aspects of work.

11. Observe personnel policies.

12. Perform other job-related duties as required.

Safety and Sanitation
Comply with Department and Cedar Haven fire prevention and safety standards, including the reporting of equipment malfunctions and hazardous conditions.

Resident Rights

1. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information and observe the principles of geriatric care.

2. Monitor nursing care to ensure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.

Working Conditions

1. Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility.

2. Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.

3. Is subject to frequent interruptions.

4. Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.

5. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.

6. Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors.

7. Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.

8. Is involved in community/civic health matters/projects as appropriate.

9. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.

10. Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day.

11. Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for the residents' needs.

Must be a licensed as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and a graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Additional job-related on-going education required.

Must have a minimum of four (4) years nursing experience; one (1) year minimum in long-term care and one (1) year supervisory experience.

Specific Requirements

1. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

2. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

3. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.

4. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and nonprofessional personnel.

5. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.

6. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.

7. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.

8. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.

9. Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

2. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.

3. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

4. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

5. Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.

6. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.

7. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.

8. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of pounds.

9. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
